Prof. Abiodun Musa Aibinu (PhD)
2nd Vice-Chancellor, Summit University, Offa
Chief Executive & Academic Officer
“Universities must become engines of economic vitality. By championing Acadopreneurship and technology transfer, we transform laboratory prototypes into commercial products, sustainable enterprises, and societal impact.”
Industry Impact, Innovation and Development
Translating cutting-edge research into market-ready prototypes, technology enterprises, and strategic industrial partnerships.
I have consistently sought to strengthen the relationship between the University and industry, government, professional organisations and wider society by promoting the translation of academic knowledge into practical solutions. My leadership has emphasised research, innovation, entrepreneurship, technology transfer and commercialisation as mechanisms through which universities can contribute to economic development and address societal challenges. This approach has supported the development of intellectual property, prototypes, commercialised products, technology enterprises and industry-oriented research and consultancy engagements.
Selected Strategic Initiatives & Outcomes
Key mechanisms through which Summit University's research and innovation were channelled into industrial applications:
Tripartite Industry-Government-Academia Alliances
Strengthened relationships between the University, industry, government agencies, professional organisations and wider society.
Innovation Ecosystem & Enterprise Incubation
Established and strengthened a research, innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem supporting technology transfer, product development, commercialisation and enterprise creation.
Research in AI, Robotics, Green Energy & Digital Systems
Promoted research and innovation in Artificial Intelligence, robotics, digital systems, renewable energy, environmental monitoring and engineering technology.
Intellectual Property & Market-Ready Prototypes
Supported the development of intellectual property, market-ready prototypes and technology-based enterprises.
High-Tech Commercialisation & Corporate Spinoffs
Supported the commercialisation of the Intelligent Walking Stick and the development of Artificial Intelligence for Clean Energy Nigeria Limited.
The Acadopreneurship Paradigm
Promoted the concept of Acadopreneurship, linking academic knowledge, research outputs and innovation with enterprise development and societal impact.
Consultancy & Technical Advisory Services
Strengthened consultancy and technical advisory engagements in engineering, ICT, digital education, curriculum development, Artificial Intelligence and institutional development.
Multidisciplinary & Defence Collaborations
Encouraged multidisciplinary collaboration with government agencies, defence organisations, industry and research institutions.
Commercialised Spinoffs
Demonstrating practical knowledge-to-impact translation through market-ready products, notably the Intelligent Walking Stick (patented assistive navigation for the visually impaired) and Artificial Intelligence for Clean Energy Nigeria Limited (high-efficiency green tech solutions).
The Acadopreneurship Philosophy
Prof. Aibinu's signature paradigm bridging the gap between ivory-tower academic research and commercial industrial enterprise. It empowers scholars, researchers, and students to patent, incubate, and spin off viable commercial ventures that solve national challenges.
